Karuizawa is located in eastern Nagano Prefecture, bordered by Gunma Prefecture to the north, east and south. The town is located on an elevator at the foot of Mount Asama, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. The mountain is classed as a Category A active volcano. A small eruption was detected in June 2015. The volcano is actively monitored by scientists and climbing close to the summit is prohibited.

Sengataki Fall is one of its most popular attractions. Formed by erosion across a fault line due to deformation in the Earth’s crust, the waterfall is roughly 30 meters tall and marks one end of the gorge.
Shiraito Falls is known as the Greatest Waterfalls in Japan. Clear water is gushing out of precipices between aged Fuji volcano layers and new Fuji volcano layers. Hundreds of falls including big and small one’s flow down from 20m heigh and 150m in width curved precipices. The figure itself looks like plenty of silk yarn flowing down from the precipices.
